A Framework for Evaluating Agricultural Ontologies

An ontology is a formal representation of domain knowledge, which can be interpreted by machines. In recent years, ontologies have become major tool for knowledge and core component many management systems, decision-support systems other intelligent inter alia, in the context agriculture. A review existing literature on agricultural ontologies, however, reveals that most studies, propose are lacking an explicit evaluation procedure. This undesired because without well-structured processes, it difficult to consider value research practice. Moreover, rely such share them Semantic Web or between semantic-aware applications. With growing number ontology-based increasing popularity Web, becomes essential methods applied during development process. Our work contributes presenting framework guides selection suitable methods, seems missing from studies ontologies. The supports matching appropriate given based ontology’s purpose.
